Composite test centre opens

Henkel has opened a new test centre in Heidelberg with the aim of bringing lightweight design concepts for the automotive industry to the market more quickly. Automotive manufacturers and suppliers are constantly seeking cost-effective processes for the production of more than 10,000 composite parts per year. They also need custom-formulated, fast-curing resins for use in short production cycles. As a result, it is essential for them to have reliable partners with in-house test facilities which offer similar conditions to volume production lines. This is why Henkel has opened its composite lab, where customers can run trials using high-pressure resin transfer moulding (HP-RTM) equipment. The HP-RTM machine includes a 380-tonne press and injection equipment for polyurethanes and epoxy resins, plus internal release agents.
