Despite normal south-west monsoon, the pattern of distribution of rainfall was found to be uneven during the period. Uneven distribution of rainfall resulted in lower consumption of fertilisers in some of the major fertiliser consuming states. Total fertiliser nutrient consumption declined by 3% during 2016-17 over the previous year. The supply from indigenous production (N+P) increased nominally. The shortfall between consumption and production was fulfilled through import.
