A long-term fertiliser experiment, in progress since June, 1970, designed to study the effect of various levels of N, P, K, Zn and S application on wheat yield, nutrient content and NPK uptake by wheat crop was monitored for two years. Experiment has been laid out in randomized block design with ten treatments replicated thrice. Pooled data of two years revealed that continuous fertilisation with 100 kg N + 22 kg P + 41 kg K ha~(-1) and 200 kg N + 44 kg P + 82 kg K ha~(-1) increased significantly the dry matter, grain and straw yield of wheat. Effect of N was significant and so was effect of P over N. Effect of 41 kg K ha~(-1) on grain yield was significant only when it applied along with 44 kg P with 100 and 200 kg N ha~(-1). Nitrogen content in wheat grain and uptake by grain and straw increased significantly with application of N. The P content in wheat grain and straw increased significantly with an application of 22 and 44 kg P ha~(-1) along with 100 and 200 kg N ha~(-1), respectively. The P content also exhibited significant increase when 41 and 82 kg K ha~(-1) was supplemented along with 100 kg N + 22 kg P ha~(-1) and 200 kg N + 44 kg P ha~(-1), respectively. The K content and uptake in both grain and straw increased significantly with application of 41 and 82 kg K ha~(-1) over 100 kg N + 22 kg P and 200 kg N + 44 kg P ha~(-1), respectively. Response of wheat to application of Zn and S was not significant.
