What kind of force is at work when the cell nucleus of a just-fertilized C. elegans (nematode) moves toward the center of the cell? Focusing in force, the dynamic processes of the cell are unraveled by simulating the flow of forces working within the cell, akin to a structural mechanism. We visited Professor Akatsuki Kimura who is pioneering the new field of cell architecture at his Cell Architecture Laboratory at the National Institute of Genetics.
