Gondwana Rainforest of Australia

Eastern Australia holds a number of reserved areas, including national parks, containing rainforests in which there are species of plants which are, or are closely related to, ancient species occurring before the break-up of Gondwana. Many of these areas have been linked under the title "Gondwana Rainforest of Australia" and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Area. The included areas are circled in red on the map. The initial listing was in 1986 and included reserves within New South Wales. In 1994 additional areas were added and, later, this name was ascribed to them. The reserves are spread over a wide area which covers the northern half of New South Wales and some areas in southern Queensland.
