Sempra, Bechtel fnalise Port Arthur LNG cost

US developer Sempra Energy has signed a fxed-price contract with engineering frm Bechtel to build its proposed Port Arthur LNG export project in Texas. San Diego-based Sempra did not disclose the price in announcing the deal on 3 March. Based on analysis of current construction costs, the contract price is likely to be in a range of $7bn-8bn for base-load capacity of 11mn t/yr, equivalent to 1.6bn ft~3/d (16.5bn m~3/yr) of natural gas, and peak capacity of 13.5mn t/yr from two liquefaction trains. Sempra did not comment on the Argus analysis.
