Russian oil and gasoline tankcar lease rates increased by Rbs20/d (35￠/d) to Rbs660-730/d in February, excluding value-added tax (VAT) - the first rise since a bigger Rbs40/d jump in September. Some market participants say this is a speculative increase and that rates will fall again in spring, but for others the price rise is supported by higher maintenance and repair costs incurred by tankcar owners. Lease rates had been unchanged since September (see table).
