Nicaragua’s government has taken over fuel distributor DNP Petronic and its in- ventories, blaming a threat of fuel shortages caused by US sanctions. DNP Petronic operates at least 69 retail outlets that the government says sup- ply 40pc of domestic demand for diesel and gasoline. The distributor is now being run by the energy ministry, after its nationalisation was approved by Nicaragua’s legislature on 14 December.
