IM F lowers forecast on energy concerns

Concerns over the direction of Mexico’s energy policy have spread to the IMF,which has lowered its economic growth forecast for the country.The downgrade partly reflects”shifts in perceptions about policy direction under the new administration”,the IMF says in its World Economic Outlook published this month.The growth forecast for this year is cut to 1.6pc from 2.1pc in January,while next year’s figure falls to 1.9pc from 2.2pc.The new government took office under President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on 1 December.One of its first moves was to cancel a series of upstream auctions designed to attract investment and technology to an oil sector that has been in steady decline for a number of years.
