Europe’s net wood pellet imports fall in January

Europe imported a net 750,000t of wood pellets in January,down by 19pc on the year,as it relied more on its own supply.Overall wood pellet imports were steady on the year at 1.55mn t,as an increase in intra-EU trade offset a decline in supply from outside the continent.The largest importer of wood pellets,the UK,took 625,000t in January-down by 6pc on the month,but up by 20pc on the year.The UK increased its imports of Baltic wood pellets by 176pc on the year to 57,000t in January,in line with December.The increase demonstrates a recovery in Latvian and Estonian production,after forest flooding in late 2017 restricted raw material access.
