Japan nearly doubles imports of SE Asian pellets

Japan’s January imports of Vietnamese and Malaysian wood pellets nearly doubled from a year earlier to a combined 113,000t, as the southeast Asian producers acquired more sustainability certifcation and production capacity. Japan imported 162,000t of wood pellets in January, the second-highest monthly imports after December 2019 when the country imported a record 166,000t. The January imports were up by 74pc on the previous year but down by 2pc on the previous month.
