UK generation from plant biomass rose by 5.6pc to 19.88TWh last year, according to government statistics released. Installed plant biomass generation capacity, including - but not restricted to - woody biomass, increased by 5.1pc to 2.99GW. Generation from plant biomass peaked in the first quarter of 2017 at 5.80TWh, slipping to 4.91TWh in the second quarter, 4.80TWh in the third quarter and then to 4.36TWh in the fourth quarter. UK utility Drax suffered outages totalling 170 unit days across its three 645MW biomass-fired units during the second half of 2017, compared with 58 days of outages in the first half.
