If representatives in Michigan are successful with their legislative efforts, aquaculture in the Great Lakes region will be regulated as a source of pollution, perhaps even banned. Other representatives in the Great Lakes region meanwhile want to support expansion of aquaculture development. Which will it be? Given my career in both aquaculture and environmental conservation, will I choose one side over the other? Before I answer that question, I want to examine some of the issues involved and provide some insights, from my perspective.
