Novel process to measure reduction in aircraft wing drag

GKN Aerospace is working with Durham University to develop and implement an ultra-sensitive test method to measure accurately improvements in airframe drag performance. The test is being used to identify surface coatings that could reduce drag by 25%o when compared with traditional aircraft surfaces-and when tested in typical aircraft cruise conditions.
