Aluminium-lithium alloy to compete with carbon fibre composites

A low density aluminium-lithium alloy designed for use in aircraft primary structures has been developed by Alcan Global Aerospace, Transportation and Industry. The company is investing 42.5 million euros to develop and produce the alloy - called Airware - at its research and development facility in Voreppe, and its production facility in Issorie, both in France.
