Lightweight composite fairings for Spanish Navy's diesel submarines

Goodrich Corp, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, has been selected to produce lightweight, composite structures for the Spanish Navy's diesel-electric S-80 submarines, by Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors (MS2), based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The hydrodynamic shape of the lightweight, non-metallic fairings allows for smooth laminar flow of water over their surface, thereby reducing noise and drag on the submarine.
