A hex "tap" bolt is a term used to describe a fully threaded hex bolt. Many of our customers will use the terms "Hex Tap Bolt" and "Fully Threaded Hex Cap Screw" interchangeably. Remember that in the U.S., a "bolt" is a fastener that is designed to be used with a nut. A "screw" is a fastener that is designed to be able to be installed by tightening the head. A tap bolt should be assembled with a nut, and the nut should be turned to tighten the assembly. A fully threaded hex cap screw can be used with or without a nut (tapped hole) and can be assembled by turning the head or the nut during assembly. Typically, in our industry, if someone orders a hex bolt you can always supply a hex cap screw. If a hex cap screw is ordered, you cannot just supply a hex bolt without first getting the customer's approval.
