Epidemiology of CTX-M-type extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli among older adults

To identify independent predictors for isolation of CTX-M-type extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (CTX-M E coli) in older adults (65 years old), 87 cases with CTX-M E coli isolation were compared with matched controls without E coli isolation. Institutionalized residence, multiple comorbidities, and urinary catheter were independent predictors of CTX-M E coli among older adults.
