Papuloerythroderma of Ofiiji (PEO) was first described in 1984 by Dr. Ofuji. He described the characteristic coalescing sheets of papules, forming an erythroderma with sparing of the skin folds. Farthing later gave this phenomenon of skin fold sparing the term "deck chair sign," as he described the ability of the rash to spare those areas that receive constant pressure, such as the axilla, skin folds, and even the area under a watch band.
