Repsol ready for deepwater Gabon pre-salt oil chase

Repsol will spud a rare deepwater wildcat off Gabon later this year with partner Woodside taking on extra acreage in the region. Operators had been optimistic about pre-salt drilling off the state as they hoped it would be analogous to Brazil but a drilling spree three years ago had mixed results. This will be the first well since with others set to follow as the Spanish firm won the Luna Muetse block (formerly E13) in the 2013 licensing round and shot 3D seismic in 2015. The licence covers 2,000sq km with Repsol previously saying it was hoping to target the pre-salt with the Luna Muetse Ivela well.
