E Guinea gives Exxon tie-back extension ahead of Zafiro talks

Equatorial Guinea has given ExxonMobil a six-month 'use it or lose it' extension to acreage around its Zafiro field which contains a planned tie-back discovery. A data room will be opened early next year for the Zafiro field itself. ExxonMobil's right to the field expires in 2025 and back in 2016 the government said it would not renew the licence due to a lack of activity. This stance softened with renewed spending but the US supermajor has been conducting its own negotiations to sell the block.
