BP takes drillship for Tortue and Mauritanian appraisal

BP has awarded rig operator Valaris the initial contract for the Tortue project off Senegal and Mauritania although there may also be appraisal drilling on other discoveries. The Valaris DS-7 drillship has been awarded a five well contract that is expected to start in September and last for around 320 days. There are also options for three more individual wells. The initial subsea infrastructure at Tortue is for four wells tied into the FPSO in approximately 328ft to 656ft (100m to 200m) of water. The FPSO will clean the gas and strip any liquids before a second pipeline to the FLNG vessel. A total of 12 wells are planned in three phases.
