invest or not to invest? Risk is the question

Commercial activity in oil, gas and mining in Africa accounted for 11% of the world's total activity in extractive industries in 2011 - almost double that of the previous year. More interestingly, in 10 years time the commercialisation of natural resources in Africa will account for over 30% of global activity. This growth, however, is premised on the investment environment continuing to benefit from largely favourable political and security conditions, the most important potential barriers to Africa's growth story. It is clear that there is a growing political impetus across the region to attract and retain foreign capital and it is crucial that this political arena transforms itself to be stable in the long-term.
