Delayed onset muscle soreness peaks 24 h after high intensity exercise and last between 3-7 days. This process is multifactorial and involves mechanical and biochemical components that limit muscle motion. For this reason, recovery strategies are instrumental in restoring muscle function for future training routines or competition. This publication presents the effect of TensLess, a polyphenolic extract obtained from mangosteen {Garcinia mangostana), and pomegranate, concentrated in black elderberry[Sambucus nigra) juice. Therefore, this product provides a wide variety of bioactive polyphenols such as xanthones,ellagitannins and anthocyanins. TensLess and placebo were supplied in 500 mg capsules to 18 recreational participants supplemented during a 5 days period. The studied consisted in a randomized, double-blind crossover trial with 3 weeks of washout. TensLess consumption resulted in a 33% decrease in soreness perception compared to placebo, observed at 24 h post-eccentric exercise routine. This decrease coincided with a lower release of circulating muscle enzymes, such as myoglobin and creatine kinase. Therefore, TensLess was very effective in preserving muscle integrity and reducing soreness, contributing to a better recovery.
