As the economy shifts and companies extend equipment ownership cycles to decrease capital expenses, manufacturers and dealerships are focusing on their aftermarket parts businesses to help drive revenue. "Even before the COVID pandemic and related recession, we had a long history of cyclical vehicle sales," said Kyle Treadway, dealer principal for Kenworth Sales Co., a dealership based in West Valley City, Utah. "The last two decades saw that rise and fall of sales volumes grow more volatile, so the dealers who survived the recessions of 2000 and 2009 increased their reliance on the aftermarket. It's an old-school business strategy, and it's working once again."
