Heat Transfer Enhancement of Nanofluid Cooled Microchannel Heat Sink

This article reports an experimental study on the influence of nanofluids on heat transfer performance of a microchannel heat sink. Experiments were conducted using nanofluids Al_(2)O_(3)/water with volume concentration of 0.1% and 0.25% and deionized water in a microchannelheat sink having 25 numbers of rectangular micro channels. From the experimental study, it was observed that nanofluids enhance the heat transfer performance of the microchannel heat sink significantly. Al_(2)O_(3)/water shows better heat transfer performance when comparedto deionized water. Higher the volume concentration of nanofluids better is the heat transfer. The heat transfer enhancement depends on the nanofluid, its volume concentration and Reynolds number. Compared to water, pressure drop is observed to be only slightly higher for nanofluids.
