Square-Diagonal SEC-DED Code in Wireless Sensor Networks

摘要

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are often exposed to hostile random environment, in terms of random distribution in nature. As a result, invariable failures will occur. We propose an error correcting code scheme tailored to WSNs. This proposed code improves the parity check bit by 25%~50%compared to the Square code. For example, the number of parity bit of 16 bit information has improved to 37.5% and likewise, while 32 bit information improved by 50%. The improvement ratio increases as the number of information bits increases. The parity check bits of the proposed code checkerror bits in the square and diagonal directions according to the configuration of the Square-Diagonal code; therefore code word generation becomes very simple which contributes to a low power operation of sensors often extending the life cycle of a sensor. This paper also analyzes the faultcoverage of Square-Diagonal Codes and compares it to that of conventional Single Error Correcting and Double Error Detecting (SEC-DED) codes.
