Household’s Housing Affordability Stress in Iskandar Malaysia: A Review

Households in Iskandar Malaysia are experiencing home ownership problems that increasingly critical. Home ownership has become an economic challenge to households in several countries, including Malaysia. This paper reviews the theoretical of housing affordability stress and the household’shousing affordability level in Iskandar Malaysia. The rise in house prices has led to the loss of purchasing power of households in housing ownership. An extensive gap between house prices and the household’s affordability has left the household with no choice to occupy low-quality housingwith inadequate facilities, thus leading to the housing stress and weakening the household’s well-being. This paper provides a thorough understanding and knowledge of housing affordability, housing stress, and the factors that influence the household’s housing stress.
