Aerospace Filament winding used to make booster cases for the Ariane 6 rockets

Filament winding equipment from Roth Composite Machinery of Steffenberg, Germany, is being used by Avio of Colleferro, Italy, to manufacture the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) booster cases for the European Space Agency (ESA)'s Ariane 6 rocket. By using composites rather than metals, Roth claims that the weight of the rocket's booster stages can be reduced by up to 35%, reducing operating costs per unit weight of cargo by up to 50%.
