57th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Teratology Society: Seeking a contact between humans and experimental animals

The 57th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Teratology Society (JTS) was held back to back with the 6th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Developmental Origin of Health and Disease (DOHaD) chaired by Dr H Fukuoka in Tokyo during August 26-28, 2017 with support from the Food Safety Committee of Japan. Professor H Takeyama (Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University) co-hosted the meeting. The main theme of the meeting was "Seeking a Contact between Humans and Experimental Animals", under which two special lectures and an educational lecture took place for discussing the similarities and/or differences between humans and experimental animals in terms of spermatogenesis, reproductive and developmental toxicities, and the structure and function of placentas. The program also included two symposia, an educational symposium, a workshop, an educational seminar and three lunch-on seminars, which was planned by the executive committee of the 57th JTS annual meeting (chaired by Dr H Hojo) in close cooperation with the academic and program committee of JTS (chaired by Dr K Kurosawa). More than 300 participants attended the meeting with 68 excellent posters for discussing the latest results of their studies. On behalf of the executive committee, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for great contributions of participants and cooperation from supporting organizations, as well as Dr H Takeyama who kindly co-hosted the meeting. This overview looked back the contents of 57th annual meeting briefly.
