A gas surplus in the west, a shortage in the east and a new federal approach. Historically, Canada has exported most of its natural gas to the United States. Currently, 53% of the nation's production goes south, where it comprises 11% of U.S. supplies. But the shale gas revolution has eroded Canada's market share and allowed the U.S. to begin exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG).
