The US Air Force has tried to kill off the A-10 on numerous occasions, but every time it has come to the fore and proved its worth. Combat Aircraft looks at why the 'Warthog' has been such a success. LIKE CHEWBACCA WITH chainsaw arms' is how Capt James Rosenau described the A-10 recently in a report about Exercise 'Red Flag' at Nellis AFB, Nevada. Rosenau is a former 'Warthog' pilot who is now flying the F-35A. 'In the A-10, I liked being the guy who was called upon to directly support troops on the ground. Now I like being the guy who can support legacy fighters when they may be struggling to get into a target area because of the threat level.'
