USAF RETIRES FINAL AC-130U SPOOKY GUNSHIPS

THE LAST OPERATIONAL US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Lockheed AC-130U Spooky gunship, 89-0510 'Gunslinger,' flew from Hurlburt Field, Florida to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (AFB), Arizona for storage on June 26. Gunslinger was operated by the 1st Special Operations Wing's 4th Special Operations Squadron 'Ghostriders' at Hurlburt Field, Florida, which flew AC-130Us. A total of 17 AC-130Us were operated by the USAF, of which 16 are now stored with 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) at Davis-Monthan AFB. The exception is the final example in service, 87-0128 'Big Daddy,' which is being retained for static display at the Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park.
