Role of horticultural agri-producer groups in improving competitiveness of Polish agri-producers.

This paper presents the conditions that contributed to the development of horticultural agri-producer groups in Poland. The major part of the paper describes the results of empirical research conducted among 62 agri-producer groups in Poland on the threshold of 2000 and 2001. These results indicate the many advantages achieved by farmers taking up integrated actions. They are mainly: gaining new sale markets, improvement in the quality of offered products, assuring regular supplies, and proper preparation of products for sale. Moreover, members' farms have undergone changes, which contribute to increased competitiveness of Polish farms. The paper also presents regulations and laws that determine the establishment and the activities of agri-producer groups and producer organizations in Poland.
