摘要

With a Dec. 16 UMWA representation vote looming, C.W. Mining suspended about 25 Latino coal miners at its Co-Op mine in Utah Dec. 9, a move blasted by the international union's president, Cecil Roberts, but defended by Co-Op mine manager Charles Reynolds and explained to Platts Coal Outlook on Dec. 10. According to a Dec. 10 United Mine Workers of America news release, Roberts said the Latino miners were fired because the coal company said they were undocumented workers. He called on C.W. Mining to "publicly release copies of any and all directives it claims it has received from 'federal agencies' that required it to update the miners' Social Security numbers.
