UNDERSTANDING OF FUNCTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE FARMERS ABOUT REGIONAL RESEARCH STATION, SHIMOGA, KARNATAKA

A GRICULTURAL Research Stations are established to conduct research on the agricultural problems of the locality and find effective solutions. They are also responsible for developing innovations, which if adopted by farmers, lead to increase production and income. Since farmers are the main clientele of the Agricultural Research System, they have a right to know the functions of the Research Stations and express opinions regarding their expectations. The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, has 22 Research Stations spread over the whole of the agroclimatic regions of IV, V and VI in southern parts of Karnataka. Out of these 22, four are Regional Research Stations located at Mandya, Mudigere, Shimoga and Brahmavar. Tha Regional Research Stations have been established with an objective of conducting research based on the location specific problems of the farmers. These Research Stations are mostly located in rural areas. From time to time, some farmers visit the Research Stations for obtaining technical information from the scientists.
