Balance sheet of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in True Potato Seed production

摘要

One of the major constraints in potato cultivation is supply of sufficient disease-free seed material in time. The country is presently producing only 30 per cent of breeder's seed requirement. Farmers are not able to realise higher yields due to non-availability of quality seed material. Besides, the bulky nature of potato seed tubers pose enormous problem in transportation. In light of this raising potato through True Potato Seeds (TPS) is gaining popularity. True potato seed production being newfor Karnataka, its agro-techniques need to be standardized in comparison with the traditionally grown ware potato crop through seed tubers. Among the agro-techniques, nutrient management tops the priority since potato is most sensitive to nutrient stress. Response of potato to increased level of nutrient varies greatly in terms of uptake and retention of the same as reported by earlier workers (Abdul Khalak and Kumaraswamy, 1993; Sujatha, 1994; Veeranna, 1996), Keeping above facts in view, an attempt has been made in present investigation to estimate budget of major nutrient applied both in organic and inorganic forms in TPS production.
