EU toy safety Directive evaluation uncovers CMR concerns

A major European Commission assessment has found EU rules governing the concentration limits of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) substances in toys are deficient, opening the possibility of a legislative review. The findings in the Commission’s 'staff working document' on the evaluation of the toy safety Directive, published on 19 November, follow a commitment outlined in the new EU chemicals strategy for sustainability for better safeguards on hazardous substances in children’s products.
