EU chemicals strategy: German chemical industry slams hazard-based emphasis

German chemical industry body VCI has heavily criticised the hazard-based approach to risk assessment proposed in the new EU chemicals strategy. In a statement released on 19 November, VCI argues that a hazard-based approach to risk assessment ignores the potential for safe use of chemicals. It also says that proposed new CLP hazard classes under the strategy will be introduced "partly irrespective of whether there are real hazard characteristics".
