A team from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has developed 'optimised' testing strategies to root out redundant data and reduce the number of tests needed for CLP and hazard-based risk management. The EU's CLP Regulation classifies and labels chemicals according to their intrinsic hazards. The classifications have consequences for subsequent risk management. For example, substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (category 1) may also be identified as substances of very high concern (SVHCs), and subject to restrictions under REACH.
