Bright colours and pleasant haptics are the essentials for aesthetic parts in jewellery, watch industry, for interior in automotive or as control elements for consumer products or domestic appliances. Plastics in any colour shade are state-of-the-art. In order to create a unique selling point new materials that stand for exclusivity and show the high value of a long-lived product are inquired. Ceramics score in scratch resistance, but the available colours are limited since many colour pigments are destroyed during the sintering process. This was the starting point for the authors' search of an alternative material. The almost unlimited colour pallet of glazes for porcelain seemed appealing for meeting the requirements of product designers. However, the scope was not to decorate a component with a glassy surface but to create a solid component.
