This year is the bicentenary of the birth of John Ruskin (1819-1900), art critic and social reformer, whose influence spread not only to William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement in Victorian Britain, but across the globe to Soetsu Yanagi and the Mingei movement in early 20th-century Japan.
