The difficulties in measuring Reporting Rate (RR) for Pap smears reported as CIN2 or worse (RR) accurately in small laboratories due to statistical instability are confused with differences in reported RR because of differences in disease prevalence. Laboratories reporting small numbers of Pap smears will report detection rates that are subject to significant statistical instability, regardless of whether or not they report smears on a low prevalence population.
