Animal welfare guideline for animal husbandry of fattening bulls and suckler cows in Lower Saxony

An animal welfare guideline for production of cattle was developed as part of the framework"Tierschutzplan Niedersachsen" The guideline is a joint work of authorities, agriculture and an animal welfare organization and formulated as a consensus paper. It includes first animal welfare legislation requirements for fattening bulls and suckler cows, since there are currently no special statutory regulations in Germany for these types of animals. The guideline demonstrates the basis for animal welfare standards of new buildings and fundamental modifications as well as the further development of old buildings. It represents a decisive step towards the improvement in farming of fattening bulls and is implemented in Lower Saxony by decree of 23rd of October 2018.
