7-Cyclopropyl-2'-deoxytubercidin: a carbocyclic side-chain derivative of 7-deaza-200-deoxyadenosine

The ribonucleoside tubercidin [7-deazaadenosine, (IIa); purine numbering is used throughout this discussion] is a close structural analogue of adenosine and shows significant biological activities (Suhadolnik, 1970). The antibiotic was isolated from Streptomyces tubercidicus (Anzai et at, 1957), and its crystal structure was reported by Stroud (1973) and Abola & Sundaralingam (1973). The single-crystal X-ray structure of the related DNA analogue 20-deoxytubercidin, (IIb), was reported by Zabel et al. (1987).
