The number and percentage of people throughout theworldwhowill be 60 years of age and older are steadily growing due to reduced fertility rate and longer life expectancy.Weare facing the prospect that large numbers of individuals in countries throughout theworld will be living longer with disability and pain resulting fromage-related disorders.We have awide array of biomedicalmaterials that could serve as the basis for treatments to dealwith these problems. It is important to begin nowto investigate how these biomaterials can be deployed in conjunctionwith the necessary biologics to treat lesions at an early stage of their development,whilemeeting the criteria of lowcost andminimal invasiveness.
