HOUSTON (ICIS)--Problems at a Pemex ammonia plant caused volumes and margins to decline at Alpek's sole caprolactam plant, the head of the Mexico-based resin producer said on Friday. Alpek produces caprolactam through its subsidiary Univex. The plant, in Salamanca, Mexico, has a capacity of 85,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects. For the past year, Univex has been operating the plant at 65-66% capacity because Pemex has not been operating its ammonia plant at full capacity, said Jose de Jesus Valdez, general director of Alpek. He made his comments during an earnings conference call.
