STUDIES ON AFRICAN CHEILOLEJEUNEA(LEJEUNEACEAE) I: NEW SPECIES AND NEW COMBINATIONS

The genus Leucolejeunea A. Evans is reduced to a synonym under Cheilolejeunea (Spruce)Schiffn. on the basis of variable morphological characters, such as ventral merophytes, oilbodies, stem cells, lobule and gynoecial innovations, and on the basis of recent molecularevidence. Consequently three new combinations within Cheilolejeunea; Ch. rotundistipula(Lindenb. ex Lehm.) Malombe, Ch. unciloba (Lindenb.) Malombe and Ch. xanthocarpa (Lehm.et Lindenb.) Malombe, are proposed. Two new species, Cheilolejeunea fischeri and Cheilole-jeunea ngongensis are also described.
