The effects of fertilization with K2SO4 and gypsum on the yield, oil content, oil yield, protein content, protein yield and fatty acids composition of the cv. Smart and hybrid Toccata were investigated at the experimentnal field of the Slovenian Institute of Hop Research and Brewing at Zalec, Slovenia, in 2006/2007. The source of sulfur did not affect yield, however a negative effect of sulfur fertilization in the spring on cv. Smart was detected. A positive effect of fertilization with gypsum was observed in hybrid Toccata when it was applied at sowing. Oil content was higher in cv. Smart by 3.32% compared to hybrid Toccata. Protein content was not affected by sulfur application and was higher in hybrid Toccata compared to Smart by 1.35%. Linoleic acid content was higher in hybrid Toccata by 2.2-2.4%, oleic acid content was higher in cv. Smart by 2.2-3.1%. Other investigted fatty acids did not differ significantly between Smart and Toccata.
