Mathematical modeling of water cooling in steelmaking processes requires accurate values of thermal diffusivity of FeO scale. Several researchers have reported thermal diffusivities for sintered FeO and thermally grown FeO scale as functions of temperature; however, there is a possibility that these data were effected by compositional changes of FeO during the experiments [1, 2].
